Are you able to start super payday now? The answer is YES. Starting now will ensure you will be operational ready prior to 1 July 2026 This will also ensure a smooth transition to managing real time cash flow and updated super deadlines.
If you are already using the automatic superannuation feature within your existing payroll software, you are operational you will just need to add this superannuation payment timing to your existing payroll checklist for each pay run, to ensure the super is sent to your employees funds the same day you pay employees their salary and wages.
Employer Clearing house and direct payments If f you have been using a choice clearing house or paying super directly to your employee’s super funds you will need review the payroll super detail is correct / up to date in your payroll software. Before you turn on the automatic superannuation feature. You will need to pay the last super contribution before the first pay run of the period you wish to commence super pay day using the automatic superannuation function within your payroll software.
The ATO will have increased visibility of SG contributions across the employer population, by matching employer Single Touch Payroll (STP) data and superannuation fund reporting. This visibility will allow the ATO to proactively identify missing or late SG payments and intervene sooner to ensure employers can get back on track with their superannuation before problems escalate.
The onus will be on employers to make sure they pay SG at the same time they pay their employees’ wages. Employers who repeatedly fail to pay on time and fail to disclose promptly will be exposed to the maximum administrative uplift component of the SG charge.
